I just got back from Arizona last night. I had gone out there on a road trip with my older brother, Justin, to keep him company on his way to Ft. Huachuca for a few months of military training before he leaves for Iraq. Please keep him in your prayers.
The usually mundane plane ride home ended up being a great experience (despite the crazy turbulence. I thought We might die.) because of a conversation I had with the girl sitting next to me.
This girl was beyond beautiful. So naturally I started a conversation with her.
We talked about all sorts of things. Where we were from, what we do, our families, our hobbies – the usual “get to know you” fun questions. She lived in Franklin near where I live and I was familiar with her school so we had some common ground there. Other than that, we were very different people. I was reading the book Unfashionable by Tullian Tchividjian and she was reading Spellbinder. I can’t remember the author of the book, but the jist of the book was about witches using white and dark magic to coerce helpless humans into falling in love with them. Needless to say, the subject matter of our two books couldn’t have been more different.
As we talked and laughed I began to feel a really strong call to share the gospel with her. I was a bit nervous because I’ve never done something like this on a plane before. I also didn’t wanna ruin the really good time we’d been having by getting serious. Both concerns of mine were shallow and the holy spirit convicted me of that. I knew a conversation with a stranger on a plane would probably be forgotten soon after we landed if they went like usual conversations, but I knew that if the Truth of the gospel was shared that a seed might be planted.
I asked her about her book (assuming she would ask me about mine) and she explained a bit. She asked me about my book and I jumped at the chance to tell her about what it means to be a Christian and the joy and fulfillment that you get from living inside of and for the kingdom. She took it all in like a sponge. We continued to talk about lots of other things throughout the flight, and towards the end of the ride she mentioned my book again and we talked a bit more about it. I don’t know exactly what she was thinking about when she left the plane, but I do know she was thinking. I pray (and I hope you will too) that God will work on her heart.
I was encouraged because I really felt God calling me to do something specific, and that call was coupled with the strength I needed to do it. God is so good. To him be all the glory!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
His purpose and plan is sometimes hidden from us…but when we get the tiniest glimpse – we are forever changed!

Hi Weston,
I just want you to know that your story really encouraged me. The fact that God would use my book as a launching pad for you to share the gospel is a huge blessing. Press on.

Thanks so much for your comment Tullian. I am just starting with it (following in my brother’s footsteps) and it’s a great encouragement that you took some time to give it a read. Your book has led me to closer examine my own life and how I’m being an agent of change in the world. Keep up the good work!
