Because I am a die-hard fan of USA Soccer I will occasionally put posts up to let you know how they are doing.
The soccer world shook with the upset of USA 2-0 Spain. USA were definitely the underdogs (for good reason) against the huge favorites (also for good reason) Spain in Wednesday’s match. The Americans were up for this game though. They came out and made the most of the chances they had.
The Spaniards were obviously flustered, and while they were clearly the more talented team, they couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net. The goals by Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey were more than enough to put the Americans through to their first ever FIFA final.
Spain was the arguably the best team in history before their loss yesterday. They were looking to increase their unbeaten streak to 36 games and their win streak to 15 games. USA had never before won against Spain, but they chose a great time to make their critics eat their words.
USA played Brazil Yesterday in the FIFA Confederations Cup Final and it was a bittersweet performance from the Americans. The first half was played beautifully and looked as if the USA would be able to hold onto their 2-0 lead. However, the second half was a different story and the Brazilians sent wave after wave of attack and eventually found the net 3 times to hand the Americans a heartbreaking defeat in their first FIFA Final. This one will always be remembered by the Americans as the one that got away.
Tim Howard received Most Outstanding Goal Keeper and Clint Dempsey received the Bronze Ball award (3rd best player of the Tourney).
This Tournament was a good Tournament however for the Americans in preparation for next summer’s world cup. Playing teams like Brazil, Spain, and Italy always grow your team, and it’s fairly obvious that the USA team is definitely growing.
